Wings over the World
A shorebird discovery morning for children and adults.
Didn't you know Bribie Island is a vital destination on one of Earth’s most extraordinary bird migrations?
Each year thousands of migratory shorebirds journey over 10,000 kilometres from the tundra of Russia and Alaska to the rich feeding grounds of Moreton Bay. Many spend the southern summer at Pumicestone Passage, using the vast tidal flats to refuel and Kakadu Beach Roost to rest at high tide. These remarkable birds - many threatened - including godwits, knots, plovers, stints, and the critically endangered Far-Eastern Curlew, offer us the chance to see one of the world's greatest avian spectaculars. Visit Kakadu Beach over the morning high tide, where friendly experts and volunteers will be on hand with spotting scopes and binoculars, and camera to help you identify these feathered visitors and children’s activities for family fun!
