Darren Jew Photography
Darren Jew grew up in Caboolture and has since spent more than three decades photographing the planet’s most extraordinary landscapes and wildlife - from Antarctica to Zambia - working across mountain peaks, desert plains and beneath the ocean’s surface.
His connection to the marine environment began close to home, snorkelling with his grandmother in the waters of the Bribie Island passage. That early experience sparked a lifelong passion for the ocean, now expressed through his internationally recognised and award-winning underwater photography.
After studying photography at Queensland College of Art and developing his craft in dark rooms and commercial studios, Darren went on to spend eight years as photographer with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. This role allowed him to combine technical excellence with a deep, lived commitment to conservation and the natural world.
Reognised as a ‘Canon Master’ in 2007, Darren is one of Australian’s most respected nature photographers. His work has been featured in the Netflix series Tales by Light, showcasing a select group of the world’s best photographers.
A comp;elling and sought-after speaker, he presents widely across Australia and internationally on photography, the ocean and environmental storytelling. Darren’s distinctive visual perspective has been honoured with the title of Australian Professional Nature Photographer of the Year on six ocassions between 2007 and 2018. Now based on Bribie Island, his imagery continues to play a central role in shaping visual identify of the Bribie Island Nature Festival, where his photographs are featured prominently across the festival’s digital platforms.
