Repair Ritual

Art workshop with LEWIS - a creative repair session at Obsidian Bide: Art Gallery & Studio.

What kinds of memories or feelings do you think objects can carry?

Facilitated by artist LEWIS, the Repair Ritual is a participatory workshop grounded in the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi - the idea that breakage and repair are part of an object's history, not something to be hidden.

Visitors are invited to bring a broken ornament to the gallery for communal repair. The session incorporates guided meditation on the deep time of ornaments: the geological origins of plastic, the cultural life of decorative objects, the intimacy of things kept and broken and kept again.

Repair here is both practical and metaphysical - an act of attention and tenderness directed at the overlooked.

Participants are invited to consider how small, caring acts - like mending something - might help push back against harm or loss? Part storytelling, part séance for the sentimental, this DIY ornament workshop becomes a kind of ritual - an opportunity to explore the quiet energy of personal and communal mythologies, and the strange kinships we form with everyday things.
