Fairweather: A Musical Journey

A concert inspired by the fascinating life of Ian Fairweather.

about

Explore the extraordinary life of Ian Fairweather, Bribie's most renowned artist, in a unique multi-media event.

Fairweather is a collaboration of poet Rodney Hall, composer Erik Griswold and artist Glen Henderson exploring the remarkable life, work, and psychology of artist Ian Fairweather. The work is scored for string quartet, koto virtuoso Satsuki Odamura, and narrated by award-winning writer Rodney Hall. The music is framed by Henderson's evocative video works.Fairweather traces the artist's early years in Scotland followed by his experiences as a soldier in World War I, his myriad travels through the Asia-Pacific, his life changing journey aboard a home-made raft, and his final years in a dilapidated shack on Bribie Island.

Reflecting on scenes, events and images from the artist's life, you will be immersed in a collage of music, text, and image which mirror the intricate, textured layers of Fairweather's paintings. The concert will start with a special introduction from local artist Geoff Ginn, sharing stories and memories from personal interactions with Ian Fairweather. This event is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

Drinks will be available to purchase from our volunteer-run bar.
